Sustainable construction gains strength at São Paulo Climate Week 2026

Forum Building Resilient Cities brings together ABRAINC, CBIC, GBC Brasil, Saint-Gobain, Secovi-SP and SindusCon-SP to accelerate sustainable construction and green financing.

Sustainable construction gains strength at São Paulo Climate Week 2026

Sustainable construction gained a national stage at São Paulo Climate Week 2026, which takes place between August 3 and 7 and brings together companies, governments, investors and academia around the climate transition. For the first time, six major organizations in the sector work together in the same forum: ABRAINC, CBIC, GBC Brasil, Saint-Gobain, Secovi-SP and SindusCon-SP. The meeting "Building Resilient Cities — Forum for Real Estate Development, Construction and Sustainable Finance" will be held on August 6, at the headquarters of Secovi-SP, and is part of Axis 4 — Cities, Infrastructure and Water, one of the six thematic fronts of the largest climate mobilization on an urban scale in the country.

Fórum reúne as principais entidades do setor

The forum places the complete construction and real estate market chain side by side: ABRAINC represents developers, CBIC leads the construction industry, GBC Brasil brings certification of sustainable buildings, Secovi-SP responds to the São Paulo real estate market and SindusCon-SP brings together construction companies. Saint-Gobain exercises business leadership in the axis, mobilizing the sector around climate adaptation, resource efficiency and resilient infrastructure.

"Climate change requires a profound transformation in the way we design and build our urban spaces", says Gustavo Siqueira, vice-president of Human Resources and Public Affairs at Saint-Gobain Latam. The executive defends lighter, more sustainable, industrialized and efficient construction methods — an agenda that directly connects the construction site to the country's climate goals.

  • Date: August 6, at Secovi-SP headquarters, in São Paulo
  • Event is part of São Paulo Climate Week 2026, between August 3rd and 7th
  • Axis 4 — Cities, Infrastructure and Water, led by Saint-Gobain
  • Audience: construction companies, developers, investors and public policy makers

Green financing and carbon market on the agenda

The forum's programming focuses on economic instruments that can enable construction's transition to a low-carbon economy. Experts, representatives of the productive sector and financial institutions will discuss the application of the Brazilian Sustainable Taxonomy (TSB), decarbonization strategies, climate credit, sustainable bonds and blended finance — the combination of public and private capital to get green projects off the ground.

Another central theme is the new Brazilian Carbon Market. For Nilson Sarti, vice-president of Sustainability at CBIC, the event is an invitation for the government, the productive sector and the financial market to build, together, solutions capable of accelerating the transition with a 360-degree vision. Felipe Augusto Faria, CEO of GBC Brasil, assesses that the collaborative network between the private sector, trade associations and public authorities is essential to reinforce the resilience of buildings.

  • Taxonomia Sustentável Brasileira (TSB) aplicada à construção
  • Decarbonization strategies for works and operations
  • Green finance, climate credit and sustainable bonds
  • Blended finance and economic viability of green projects

Civil construction accounts for just 5.3% of emissions

One of the most talked about data from the event must be the ABRAINC survey that positions civil construction as responsible for just 5.3% of national emissions. "Brazil has a competitive advantage in the climate agenda", says Luiz França, president of ABRAINC. The number creates conditions to advance urban development that combines innovation, sustainability and more resilient cities, without compromising the sector's growth.

In practical terms, SindusCon-SP brings to the forum the experience of the Environment Committee and CECarbon, an initiative that brings together the largest database of carbon emissions in the sector in the country. According to president Yorki Estefan, the platform supports companies in measuring emissions and adopting concrete reduction strategies — a real starting point for construction companies that still don't know where to start.

Como acompanhar e se preparar

The full forum program is open to the public and can be accessed on the official São Paulo Climate Week page. For those working with projects, budgets or construction management, the sustainability agenda stops being a trend and becomes a technical requirement: mastering modeling tools, performance analysis and environmental documentation will be a competitive advantage in the coming years.
